IGLYO LGBTQI School Survey 2026: Tell Your Story to Make Education Safer for All!
Everyone has the right to education. Yet, LGBTQI young people face some of the highest rates of violence, discrimination, and bullying in schools. This has to stop.
With this in mind, IGLYO, Europe’s largest LGBTQI youth network, is launching the second edition of its pan-European LGBTQI School Survey, the most comprehensive survey of its kind in the European region.
What is the survey about?
IGLYO’s anonymous survey asks about your current or recent lived experience as an LGBTQI young person in school, whether you are still in school, a recent graduate, or had to leave school.
Designed in collaboration with its Member Organisations, it includes questions ranging from school policies, experiences of discrimination and bullying, and your mental health and wellbeing, all the way to gender recognition and inclusion at school.
The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, is entirely anonymous and confidential, and is available in over 15 languages. All your responses are anonymous and confidential. No personal data will be linked to your answers. IGLYO is responsible for the secure storage of this information, and will delete it after 12 months. You can read more in our privacy document.
Who can take this survey?
You need to be between 15 and 24 years old and to have attended school in a Council of Europe country (see full list) to answer the survey.
Why fill out this survey?
This is not just any survey: Its results will be used by European and national policymakers to improve school environments.
The information you share is crucial for IGLYO and its Member Organisations across Europe to advocate for safer, more inclusive, and more supportive education systems for LGBTQI young people.
IGLYO will produce a comprehensive report with key findings and concrete recommendations, as well as country-specific reports to support advocacy efforts from civil society at the national level.
In short, your voice has the power to drive meaningful change. By sharing your experiences, you can help shape education systems across Europe so that every LGBTQI learner can attend school free from violence, discrimination, and fear.

If you are not a young LGBTQI student or recent graduate, you can still support this cause. We need as many survey answers as possible to make the results representative and meaningful, and to ensure a true and long-lasting impact on European education systems.
Tell learners and young people around you. You can also use this communications kit with ready-made posts and visuals to share the survey on your channels. We need all hands on deck to build education systems that are truly inclusive and safe for LGBTQI youth.

How is the survey designed and your data protected?
This survey has been developed by IGLYO in collaboration with its Member Organisations and draws on existing research and guidance on collecting equality data, including European approaches to monitoring discrimination and inequalities. It has been designed to ensure that the experiences of LGBTQI young people are captured in a safe, ethical, and meaningful way, while respecting the principles of voluntary participation, confidentiality, and data protection.
The survey is completely anonymous. IGLYO does not collect any information that can be used to directly identify you, including your name, address, contact details, cookies, or IP address. Your participation cannot be linked back to you at any stage. This approach ensures that the survey complies with the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding the processing of personal data and enables the collection of anonymised information for research, statistical, and advocacy purposes.
The survey asks about your experiences as an LGBTQI young person in education, including experiences of inclusion, discrimination, bullying, school policies, wellbeing, and support. It also includes voluntary questions about characteristics such as sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, sex characteristics, age, and other demographic information. These questions are included to better understand the different experiences of LGBTQI learners and identify inequalities affecting different groups.
All survey responses are processed by IGLYO. Access to the anonymised dataset is limited to IGLYO for research and advocacy purposes, and anonymised data may be shared with trusted research partners to contribute to a better understanding of LGBTQI students’ experiences across Europe. No information that could identify individual respondents will ever be shared.
