About

Kikimora and Kikimora Foundation

Kikimora and Kikimora Foundation is a Bulgarian-based and lesbian-led organisation that shares the values of intersectional feminism. They strive to build and sustain a community in Bulgaria through cultural events with a focus on FLINTA identities. As they see it, joy and the creation of varied spaces for queer expression are critical for the sustainability and longevity of our communities and movements — both in the Balkans and worldwide.

Throughout their journey, they have established the first recurring annual LGBTI+ arts and culture festival in Bulgaria focused on FLINTA people, called “PRIZMA”, which promotes the work of local queer artists. They have done translation of feminist texts, archival work, lesbian football and organised many other activities. Their initiatives aim to strengthen our community as a space for psychosocial support and political struggle for the protection, advancement, and fulfillment of their people’s rights.

Their mission

Kikimora and Kikimora Foundation's mission is to foster joy, solidarity, and political awareness within Bulgaria’s LGBTI+ and FLINTA communities. While they engage people through shared joy and positive non-formal learning experiences, they also centre the political and ideological aspects of our struggles.

They intentionally incorporate these topics into our community organising in order to spark conversations and raise awareness among participants. To them, queer people have always been — and will always be — at the forefront of struggles for social justice. That is where they position ourselves. "Let us get out of the margins — and take everyone else with us on the way."
