Our Bulgarian Member Kikimora needs your support to pay legal fees in a discrimination case where justice ignored their rights!
Our Bulgarian Member the Kikimora and Kikimora Foundation is running a crowdfunding campaign to help them pay 5,000 BGN they incurred in legal costs after filing a case for discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and offensive posts on social media against one of their events.
Back in 2023, their 2-week DRAGotilnitsa workshop for young drag artists was cancelled halfway through by the National Student House where it was taking place after a member of its Council and the National Representation of Student Councils posted offensive comments toward the event on Facebook.
The National Student House therefore canceled the second weekend of the workshop after its Director reported alleged increased pressure and criticism as well as “concerns” towards the security of the workshop’s participants — although no actual incidents were reported.
Kikimora brought the case to justice but both their referral to the Commission for Protection against Discrimination and appeals to the Sofia City Administrative Court and the Supreme Administrative Court were dismissed.
“A significant problem in this case is the use of "safety" as an excuse to restrict LGBTI+ people's access to public spaces. This is yet another case in which the Bulgarian court does not see discrimination against the LGBTI+ community. Help us raise the necessary funds.” says Kikimora.
We send all our support to our Member Kikimora and encourage you to support them to cover the legal fees they were charged with in a discrimination case where justice baffled their rights!
