A call from our colleague Ale for solidarity and donations for those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela
Two consecutive earthquakes struck the North of Venezuela on the 24th of June. At the moment, hundreds of deaths and injuries have been accounted for, but there are still over 50,000 people missing, potentially trapped under the rubble of 250+ buildings that fell down in the coastal areas. We stand in solidarity with our Venezuelan siblings, particularly our LGBTQI working class siblings, who have been surviving for years in an already difficult context of low wages, social service collapse and systemic discrimination and repression. We have gathered a few initiatives that are currently collecting funds for rescue and support teams on the ground. We encourage you to donate if you have the possibility to do so!
EmotionalCrack is a grassroots BIPOC led initiative to collect funds specifically for community spaces, LGBTQ+ organisations and vulnerable families in working class neighbourhoods in Venezuela. You can donate through this link. Otherwise, you can find a series of different organisations collecting and distributing donations internationally and on the ground through DonarSeguro. You can also use Venehelp: Venezuela Microfinancing, a verified list of vetted organisations, affected individuals grassroots collectives working directly with people in affected areas.
