About

SPARQ

SPARQ stands for Support, Promotion, Advocacy, and Representation for Queers on exchange, and was founded by a group of prior exchange students and volunteers from the organisation Youth for Understanding (YFU). This group recognised the need to create more learning opportunities and to offer support strategies regarding LGBTQI topics.

SPARQ educates volunteers and staff of exchange organisations to support students and host families regarding LGBTQI topics. This way, they strive to give LGBTQI students and families the same opportunities to make the most of their exchange/host year as others do.

Their mission

SPARQ spreads knowledge about LGBTQI topics and helps volunteers and staff who support students and families that belong to the LGBTQI community or that are regularly in contact with members of the community.

With our workshops, inclusive events, and educational support, they work towards an organisation where everyone can experience their exchange or host year to its full potential and free of limitations.
