About

Qıy Vaar!

Qiy Vaar! is a queer media and activism platform led by and for LGBTQ+ community in Azerbaijan. They promote marginalized voices by producing inclusive media content, videos, podcasts, and articles focusing on the lived realities of queer communities, particularly those impacted by racism, xenophobia, and systemic oppression. They exist because mainstream media in Azerbaijan silences or misrepresents LGBTQ+ narratives, reinforcing harmful stereotypes. Their platform ensures accurate, research-driven, community-led representation, countering disinformation and state-controlled narratives.

They support LGBTQ+ people, particularly, trans people, and those facing political repression and from rural areas (Caucasus, mainly Azerbaijan) facing disproportionate discrimination. Their work provides visibility and critical resources, such as legal support, media monitoring against hate speech, and emergency assistance for those in crisis.

Their mission

Qiy Vaar! is an inclusive platform for education, visibility, and community engagement. Their mission is built on three core pillars:

Visibility and Representation – They strive to expand LGBTQ+ representation in media, try to making sure diverse voices and stories are recognised, heard, and valued. By showcasing authentic narratives, they challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity.

Education and Awareness – Through informative content, they enhance public understanding of LGBTQ+ history, challenges, and achievements. By shedding light on these topics, they encourage dialogue, acceptance, and allyship.

Community Building – They create a safe and supportive online space where LGBTQ+ individuals and allies can connect, share experiences, and empower one another. By reinforcing solidarity, they advance the movement for equality and social change.
