About

Centre LGBTQIA+ Marseille

Centre LGBTQIA+ Marseille is an association founded in 2023, born from the opening of a dedicated resource centre in France's second-largest city, which until then lacked a major historic LGBTQI structure.

Led by a Board of Directors, seven thematic working groups, a small salaried team and a large network of volunteers, the Centre brings together three areas of action: acting as a resource and umbrella hub supporting community projects and associations; welcoming and orienting LGBTQI people toward specialised health, legal, social and psychological services; and promoting culture and advocacy to strengthen community visibility and influence local and national inclusion policies.

Since opening, the Centre has become a key point of reference for the LGBTQI community in Marseille and has gained growing institutional recognition, including hearings before the French Senate and the European Parliament.

Their mission

The Centre LGBTQIA+ Marseille's mission is to build a safe, welcoming, and empowering space where LGBTQI people in Marseille and the surrounding region can access support, community, and recognition.

They work to reduce isolation and break down administrative, medical, and social barriers that LGBTQI people face, by coordinating a wide network of institutional and associative partners and orienting people toward the services best suited to their needs.

They also act as an incubator, giving smaller LGBTQI collectives and associations the logistical support, visibility and shared resources they need to grow. Through cultural programming, exhibitions, discussion groups, and public events, they celebrate LGBTQI identities and foster social connection.

Finally, they advocate before local and national public authorities to defend LGBTQIA+ rights and shape more inclusive policies.
