AFRICAN LGBTIQ+ CY is an organisation in Cyprus dedicated to advocating for the rights and international protection of African queer individuals who have fled their home countries due to persecution and discrimination based on their sexuality.
In addition to championing the safety of the African queer community, we fight against racism and discrimination faced in the workplace and society at large in Cyprus. Our mission also includes empowering the community by creating safe spaces where individuals can pursue their education and feel at home.
Our mission at AFRICAN LGBTIQ+ CY is to protect and advocate for African LGBTQIA+ refugees fleeing persecution and discrimination in their home countries. We strive to ensure their safety, fight against racism and discrimination in Cyprus, and provide a supportive environment where they can rebuild their lives, pursue education, and find a sense of belonging and safety. Humanity before nationality.
Our work goes beyond advocacy, providing essential resources such as legal support, mental health services, and educational opportunities. We partner with local and international organisations to amplify the voices of African LGBTQIA+ individuals, raising awareness of the unique challenges they face, such as xenophobia, racism, and homophobia in both public and private spheres.
Additionally, we organise community events, workshops, and safe spaces where members can connect, share their stories, and find solidarity. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that African LGBTQIA+ refugees in Cyprus not only survive but thrive in a society that values and respects their identities.
